Outreach of local cinema
The North American premiere of the film NERVURES by Raymond St-Jean in the presence of the director and Marie-Thérèse Fortin, Sylvain Marcel, Richard Fréchette and Romane Denis on Thursday, November 13 at 8:45 p.m. at the Cinéma du Musée.
When Isabelle learns that her father Maurice is ill, she leaves Montreal to join Saint-Étienne, a former forest village isolated and hit by economic decline. When he arrives, the shock is brutal: his mother Thérèse reveals to him that Maurice is in fact deceased. The disturbing circumstances of her death, combined with Thérèse’s unstable behavior, awaken a deep unease in Isabelle. As strange incidents multiply in the village, the young woman discovers a mystery more sinister and terrifying than she could ever have imagined. Raymond St-Jean (Twilight for a Killer) develops an intriguing gothic aesthetic, establishing a climate of anguish where romance, drama and horror mingle.
INVISIBLES by Junna Chif starring Nadia Essadiqi will also have its North American premiere on Friday, November 14 at 8 p.m. at the Cineplex Quartier Latin.
A fully committed sex worker and burlesque dancer, Elizabeth questions her life choices. As she decides to leave this world for a more conventional life, a meeting with a client with a disability confronts her with a new perspective on her own identity. Will Elizabeth connect with her true essence as a sex worker, despite public opinion? With a delicate subject, that of sex work and the sexuality of people with disabilities, Junna Chif offers us a first humanist and raw work, supported by the subtle and nuanced performance of actress Nadia Essadiqi.
The documentary JAMES BAY 1975: LE CHOC DES NATIONS will be presented in the presence of directors Mélanie Lameboy, Myriam Berthelet and Mathieu Fournier on Friday, November 14 at 6 p.m. at the Cinéma du Musée.
Dive into the origins of two revolutions: the meteoric expansion of Hydro-Québec with the construction of the La Grande hydroelectric power station, a project defended by Prime Minister Robert Bourassa, as well as the awakening of indigenous nations. A clash of civilizations where two world views collide. Quebec, carried by the momentum of the Quiet Revolution, takes its destiny in hand. While in the North, young Inuit and Crees are rising up, for the first time, with the aim of protecting what they have most precious: their territory and their culture. At the heart of the conflict, the James Bay shipyard, the largest of its kind in North America.
Finally, let us also mention DELEAU: LE CINÉMA EN LIBERTÉ, a documentary film by Michel La Veaux, a true love letter to cinema in the form of a portrait of Pierre-Henri Deleau, founder and director of the Quinzaine des filmmakers for nearly 30 years, will be presented on Wednesday, November 12 at 6 p.m. at the Cinéma du Musée in the company of the director and Pierre-Henri Deleau himself.
An evocation of the life, passions and influence in the world of cinema of Pierre-Henri Deleau, who for twenty years was responsible for the programming of the Quinzaine des Cinéastes in Cannes. Michel La Veaux recalls through his documentary that Pierre-Henri Deleau was one of the first major architects of the development of French-speaking creation, defending films and filmmakers who would mark their era (and in particular the new Quebec cinema scene). More than a linear and autobiographical story, this is the celebration of a certain vision of cinema and a certain (fallen?) way of doing it.
