In 1962, “The Jetsons” first appeared on screens in the USA. The animated series about a family living in the future who, despite all the technological advances, has to deal with the usual problems of everyday life, was not immediately popular everywhere, but became a global success over the years. In 1985 the series was continued with two more seasons, and in 1990 it even came to cinemas with its own film. Now perhaps the most spectacular comeback of George, Jane, Judy and Elroy Jetson is about to begin. How variety.com reports, the film production company Warner Bros. is planning another “The Jetsons” flick for the big screen. This time, however, not as a cartoon, but with human actors.
Specifically, the company is in talks with Jim Carrey ("The Truman Show", "Dumb and Dumber"), who they would like to win for the role of father George Jetson. According to the report, Colin Trevorrow, who was most recently responsible for the realization of “Jurassic World Dominion,” will be comfortable in the director’s chair. Trevorrow is also writing the script, which he will write in collaboration with Joe Epstein (showrunner of “The Idol”). Details about the story are not yet known. It is also not clear whether Carrey, Trevorrow and Epstein have already agreed to cooperate. So nothing seems to be dry yet. In the worst case scenario, the project could collapse.
In fact, it wouldn't be the first time that plans for a live-action "The Jetsons" film came to nothing. One of these was supposed to appear in 2003. In 2007, Robert Rodriguez ("Sin City") planned a computer-animated version and another attempt in 2017 also failed, according to the report. We can only hope that the plans are now on less shaky ground. “The Jetsons” is now considered a cult series, partly because it foresaw things like flat-screen televisions, computer viruses, household robots and video chats that are now part of everyday life.
