The trial of a case in which Toyota is the defendant began this Tuesday (8), in Oklahoma City, United States. This is an accident that occurred in 2005, caused, according to the complainant, by the unintentional acceleration of a Camry.

The car was driven by Jean Bookout, who was 76 years old at the time. She was leaving a highway and heading towards a local road when, suddenly, the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably, resulting in a collision that killed passenger Barbara Schwarz (70).

Jere Beasley, Bookout's lawyer, mentioned at the trial that Toyota had been aware of such a flaw in the Camry line since 2004. Meanwhile, J. Randolph Bibb, the automaker's defender in the case, stated that no defect had been detected in the vehicle that could have resulted in the accident.

It is worth mentioning that Toyota has been repeatedly sued in the United States with complaints similar to this. The brand itself has carried out recalls in the past with the aim of repairing any faults that could cause its vehicles to accelerate unintentionally.
