Many smaller films, documentaries, and shorts also have high ratings, but here are the highest-rated feature films available on Netflix at the time of publishing. This could change, as films come and go from the catalogue, and new reviews can raise or lower the ratings by a few percentage points.
The oldest film dates back to the 1950s. The most recent arrived on the platform this year. The rest cover various decades and genres, with titles in both live-action and animation.
20. Invasão Zumbi (Train to Busan, 2016) – 95% on Rotten TomatoesOne of the best — if not o best — zombie movies ever made. The South Korean drama is mostly set inside a train, as a father and his daughter, along with other passengers, try to survive a sudden and frightening zombie outbreak. Prepare the tissues.
19. Rebel Ridge (2024) – 95%Netflix original productions tend to be generic and weak, even with big stars. Rebel Ridge was a surprise. Imagine Jack Reacher, only black, facing a racist gang of corrupt police officers in the southern USA. And, unlike Reacher, Terry Richmond (played by Aaron Pierre) is not a killer. I've never seen such a non-lethal action film.
18. Summer Madness (American Graffiti, 1973) – 95%Before Star WarsGeorge Lucas directed this classic that portrays with style and emotion the summer after high school in a small American town in the 1950s. Fast cars, pretty girls and melancholic goodbyes. A true cinema treasure.
17. Kpop Demon Hunters (2025) – 96%Probably the most recent release on the list. This Korean animation features K-pop stars who are secretly demon hunters. Rumi, Mira and Zoey juggle crowded shows and battles against evil, all with a soundtrack full of Korean pop for the whole family to enjoy.
16. To All the Boys I've Loved Before (2018) – 96%I haven't watched it yet, but if you're in the mood for a well-received teen romantic comedy, this is the film. The plot revolves around a teenager who sees her secret love letters being revealed.
15. Tangerine (2015) – 96%It's definitely not a children's film. Follows a trans sex worker who seeks revenge against an unfaithful pimp/boyfriend. I haven't seen it yet, but director Sean Baker has excellent works like Florida Project e Aor.
14. A LEGO Adventure (The LEGO Movie, 2014) – 96%I was positively surprised when this film came out. It's hilarious, with a great soundtrack and a well-structured script. The ending is especially touching. It's still the best of the LEGO movies.
13. A Voz Suprema do Blues (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, 2020) – 97%I had never heard of this film before putting together the list. The synopsis: “Tensions rise at a Chicago music studio in 1927 when blues singer Ma Rainey arrives for a recording session.” I really like period films and blues from the 20s!
12. Perdi Meu Corpo (I Lost My Body, 2019) – 97%One of the animations on the list. It tells the story of a severed hand that escapes from a laboratory and sets off in search of the body it belongs to. A unique premise, which won over audiences and critics.
11. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) – 97%One of the best action films of all time, back on Netflix. It doesn't matter whether or not you like post-apocalyptic stories or if you've seen the others Mad Max. This is mandatory. A true masterpiece — and I'm shocked that I'm not at 100%.
10. Jaws (Jaws, 1975) – 97%The classic monster movie turns 50 in 2025. Hard to believe. Shark practically invented a new style of suspense, influencing since Jurassic Park until Megashark. The cast is impeccable and Spielberg's special effects were outstanding. I even have a poster of this film on my wall.
9. Psychose (Psycho, 1960) – 97%As much as I love Psychosisby Hitchcock, doesn't even make it into my top 5. It's terrifying and brilliantly directed, but the ending takes me seriously. Next time, I think I'll hang up before that horrible scene with the psychologist. Still, it's a classic.
8. Rear Window (1954) – 99%When it came to Netflix recently, I said it was “one of the best thrillers ever made” — and that’s absolutely true. It's also one of James Stewart's best films, and I'm a huge fan of his. (Other favorites of mine: Happiness Cannot Be Purchased, The Man Who Killed Facínora, Scandalous Wedding e Harvey).
7. Miss Juneteenth (2020) – 99%It tells the story of a former Miss who tries to prepare her teenage daughter for the Miss Juneteenth contest. The critics loved it, but the public not so much (57% rating).
6. Sob a Sombra (Under the Shadow, 2016) – 99%During the Iran-Iraq War, a missile hits Shideh's building, and a neighbor says it was cursed and carried an evil spirit. From then on, she believes the building is possessed and wants to take her daughter. A horror with elements of war — very interesting.
5. The Forty-Year Old Version (2020) – 99%The only pun on the list, playing on the name of The 40 Year Old Virgin. Here, we follow Radha, a playwright in crisis about to turn 40, who decides to invest in hip hop. An unlikely meeting between rap and theater.
4. Parasite (Parasite, 2019) – 99%This South Korean film is a must-see for anyone who enjoys dark comedy and suspense — although it escapes any label. It deals with family, inequality and the pain caused by class differences. Unexpected in every way. Just watching.
3. Godzilla Minus One (2023) – 99%I've never been a fan of Godzilla films — especially the American ones, which exaggerate the effects and ignore the social side present in the original. But this new Japanese film is brilliant. What they did with so little budget is impressive.
2. Grave of the Fireflies (Grave of the Fireflies, 1988) – 100%Two brothers, orphaned by war, try to survive the last months of the Second World War. Watch before Godzilla Minus Onewhich takes place in the following period. One of Studio Ghibli's masterpieces — as tragic as it is beautiful.
1. Wallace & Gromit: Revenge of the Birds (2024) – 100%An adorable, hilarious and charming family film. The claymation duo Wallace and Gromit are back for another eccentric adventure, facing vengeful penguins and a “smart gnome”. The return of Feathers McGraw (more than 30 years later!) makes this animation one of the most charming available today.
