Launched in 1983, Camp Sinister, also known by its original title Sleepaway Camp, will now undergo the remake process under the direction of actor Keenan Thompson, star of the American program Saturday Night Live.
You know Sleepaway Camp - or Sinister Camp in plain Portuguese. Although not the most famous horror film of the 80s, this slasher low-budget film from 1983 has acquired true cult film status over time. One of the main reasons? Its very surprising ending, perhaps one of the most controversial in horror cinema - we will return to this later.
Deadline announces the production of a remake produced by AFA, the production company of Johnny Ryan Jr and Keenan Thompson. The latter is well known in the United States for being one of the emblematic faces of the comedy program Saturday Night Live.
Surprising information: this new version will be written and directed by Robert Hiltzik, the same writer and director of the original film. The direction this remake takes - and the way it will differentiate itself from the first film - still remains nebulous.
Sleepaway Camp has many points in common with Friday the 13th, another slasher legendary released three years earlier. Here it is also about a series of murders in a camp located in the forest with its share of unconscious monitors turned into cannon fodder. However, the final revelation allows the film to distinguish itself from the others and has established itself as one of the most memorable moments in horror cinema.

The main character of the film is Angela, a young introverted teenager who has difficulty finding her place among the teenagers at the camp. The ending reveals to us that Angela is responsible for the murders, but most importantly that she is actually a boy. Born Peter, he was forced by his aunt to take his deceased sister's name and live under the identity of a girl.
