RAM's Heavy Duty pickup line completes 20 years on the national market and receives an update to the 6.7 V8 engine supplied by Cummins. Power increases from 365 hp to 436 hp.

With the change, the 2500 and 3500 models, which are imported from Mexico, are consolidated as the most powerful diesel options in the country. Both are treated as trucks, requiring a category C driver's license to drive.

The commercial debut of the new engine will take place in September. The 3500 Night Edition series, presented this week at the Interlagos Festival, in São Paulo, brings something new under the hood. The utility features new headlights, as well as black painted wheels and front grille.

The price has not yet been released. The current option is sold for R$514,990.

The exterior mirrors were designed to transport trailers and other implements, and therefore have elongated arms. Towing capacity is 9 tonnes.

Such strength and size —these are vehicles measuring 6 m long, 2.1 m wide and weighing 3,600 kg—do not make sense in the urban environment, but success is guaranteed in the world of agribusiness.

The RAM line leads sales among large pickup trucks, competing with the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado. Not coincidentally, all options are offered by American brands.

The brand's differentiator, which is part of the Stellantis group, is precisely that it offers diesel options, while rivals are powered by gasoline.

From an environmental point of view, the segment is not at all "green". No matter how much engineering works to reduce consumption and emissions, these are high-consumption vehicles. There is also a rejection by part of the public towards hybrid or purely electric solutions.

In the United States, its main market, RAM had to go back on its strategy of offering only smaller and more efficient engines, such as the six-cylinder gasoline engine that powers the 1500 option in Brazil.

After a sharp drop in sales, the brand once again offered Hemi V8 engines, which offer even less power, but are seen as a reference for robustness by a large part of consumers in the segment.

In Brazil, diesel versions may have a waiting list, especially in the Central-West region, according to information from the RAM brand. It is rare that there are models available for immediate delivery.
