Ram has been toying with the idea of ​​a smaller pickup truck in the United States for nearly a decade. But if these recent patents are any indication, we could see the long-awaited Rampage (or whatever it's called) make its US debut soon. Perhaps. We hope so.

According to details revealed by Mopar Insiders, Ram has reportedly obtained a patent for a compact pickup truck in the US. The patent, which was originally filed on March 16, 2023, was officially granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on April 22, 2025.

The patented design appears almost identical to that of the Rampage compact pickup truck, a product developed in Brazil for Latin America. Ram recently updated its pickup truck for 2025 with a new turbodiesel engine.

Now, this patent doesn't necessarily mean that Rampage will come to the US as is. Automakers often obtain patents in specific regions for designs or nameplates that they never intend to actually use. But given the recent change at Ram, we're hopeful this means big things for a potential small Ram pickup in the US.

Former CEO Tim Kuniskis returned to the Ram brand following Carlos Tavares' departure from Stellantis and quickly announced 25 new products in 18 months. In January, Kuniskis confirmed the company was working on a midsize pickup, with the UAW confirming a 2027 start of production. At this year's Detroit Auto Show, he also told us he really wanted a midsize pickup.

“Everything is more expensive,” Kuniskis said. "Pickups are a lot more expensive - the bread goes up, but you still have to eat, right? If pickups go up, you start looking for alternatives. I used to have a price alternative with the Ram Classic. I don't have that anymore."

We'll have to wait and see if this patent actually confirms a new compact pickup truck in the Ram lineup for North America. But we are hopeful.
