Pumuckl spokesman Schafroth reveals vocal tricks

Maxi Schafroth lends his voice to the cheeky goblin Pumuckl in the new film. The scenes in which the goblin gets angry are particularly stressful for the actor.

Before the premiere of the film "Pumuckl and the Big Misunderstanding" in Munich, Maxi Schafroth gives insights into his work as the voice of the cheeky goblin. The actor and cabaret artist revealed that he prefers to record scenes with an angry Pumuckl at the end of a day of filming.

“When Pumuckl is grumpy and screams and stuff like that, that’s often difficult,” explained Schafroth. After such recordings, his voice needs time to recover. "In the evening, I'm at home very quietly."

Schafroth sought professional help for the vocal challenge. He contacted a former acting teacher who prepared him for the role. His recipe for dealing with vocal strain: “You have to warm up well.” The high pitch of the voice is “purely a matter of practice”.

The new Pumuckl film starts on October 30th. The plot revolves around carpenter Eder (Florian Brückner), who travels to the country to help the widow of his former teacher. The journey is chaotic due to naughty children, maypole thieves and the helpful Pumuckl.

Directed by Marcus H. Rosenmüller. Gisela Schneeberger, Ilse Neubauer and Robert Palfrader can be seen in other roles. The film and series continue the stories of Pumuckl and Master Eder, which have thrilled children for generations.

The original radio plays and the TV series from the 1980s based on Ellis Kaut's books have achieved cult status. At that time, Hans Clarin played Pumuckl, while Gustl Bayrhammer played Master Eder.
