The brand's global best-seller, the Honda CR-V takes another step towards further expanding sales in a segment that continues to grow. After the start of production at the East Liberty, Ohio plant in November 2016, the new generation SUV is now also being made at the Greensburg, Indiana, United States plant.
To deal with the frantic increase in demand for crossovers and SUVs, Honda made an additional investment of US$52 million, announced about a year ago, which also helped to create 100 new jobs at the Indiana state unit. In addition to the two factories in the USA, the model is also produced in Alliston, Ontario, Canada.
Available for sale in the United States since December, the 2017 CR-V starts at US$24,925 in the entry-level LX version equipped with the veteran 2.4 engine. New to the model and available from the EX version onwards, the 1.5 turbo engine (same as the Civic) with direct injection produces 192 hp and 24.8 kgfm of torque.
A public success in the United States, the CR-V was the best-selling passenger car there in January, second only to the unbeatable trio of pickup trucks (Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silveirado and RAM pick-up). There were no less than 29,287 license plates in the month.
Brazil
Currently only available in the top automatic EXL version, which costs R$148,000, the CR-V has seen better days in terms of sales here. When consulted by our reporter, Honda said that the new generation of the SUV is scheduled to arrive at the end of 2017 and beginning of 2018.
