Do you like films with real and intense stories? This Netflix film, unknown to many, is ideal for this weekend
Based on a true story,'Battalion 6888' is one of those films that manages to bring together a piece of history, a lot of emotion and an inspiring narrative. Directed by Tyler Perrythe long Netflixwhich many have never seen in its catalogue, reconstructs the trajectory of a group of black women who played a fundamental role during the Second World War.
The story begins in 1943, at the height of the Second World War. As military offensives intensified and governments focused their efforts on bloody strategies, a crisis was brewing far from the battlefields: millions of letters and parcels destined for soldiers were piled up in warehouses in England and France.
For three years, correspondence remained stopped, leaving both combatants and their families without answers about what happened during the war. To solve the problem, the United States Army created an unprecedented unit: the 6888th Battalion of the Central Postal Directoratecomposed exclusively of black women.
More than 800 officers were sent to Europe with a challenging and symbolic mission to restore the flow of communication between combatants and, with it, return a bit of humanity to soldiers at the front. Under the motto "No mail, no morale" (No letters, no morale), Battalion 6888 faced extreme conditions, working in cold, dark warehouses crammed with correspondence, the officers took turns in 24-hour shifts.
Women had to deal with the pressure of tight deadlines, scarcity of resources and prejudice from colleagues and superiors who doubted their abilities just because they were women and black. Still, in just three months, the battalion did what many thought impossible: it organized and distributed more than 17 million letters and packages.
