The star Michael J. Foxstar of 'Back to the Future'recently recalled in his new autobiography as his co-star Crispin Glover “created friction” behind the scenes with his chaotic approach to playing George McFly, Marty's bumbling father.

In his new book, “Future Boy: Back to the Future and My Journey Through the Space-Time Continuum”, Fox described the team's difficulty in dealing with the unpredictable style of Glover.

"Nobody puts Crispin in a box. But that didn't stop the film crew from literally building a box around him."he wrote Foxaccording to the New York Post. “Like George McFly, Crispin had his own ideas about how and where his character should move.”

Fox recalled a dialogue scene with Glover in which he simply couldn't stay still at the designated mark on the floor.

“When Crispin approached the camera, he was supposed to stand in a lane between the clothes line and me. But Crispin had another plan.”he wrote. “I think he saw George as a wanderer, a free spirit who moved randomly, in this case, perpendicular to the camera.”

The actor explained that the team needed “build a small corral with sandbags and lighting stands (C-stands), trapping Crispin within the limits necessary to frame the scene.”

Despite the challenges, Fox commented that “I loved working” com Gloverwhose role as George McFly was replaced by another actor in the sequels 'Back to the Future II' (1989) e ‘III’ (1990).

“His talent was unquestionable, although his methods sometimes caused friction.”he noted. “Still, I respected the fact that he stayed true to the essence of George (as he understood and interpreted him).”

"I knew Crispin Glover before Back to the Future. But I wouldn't say I was ready to act with him — there's no way to prepare for Crispin."added Fox. "With Christopher Lloyd, I had a sense of what he would do. Neither he nor Crispin did the same thing the same way twice.".
