According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film grossed just US$66 million in its first week, well below its estimated budget of US$180 million. Marketing expenses were not included in this number. For the executives, the main problem was the public's lack of interest in the story, which had already had two previous versions, in 1982 and 2010.
