A model placed above the Silverado in Chevrolet's pickup truck lineup in the United States, the GMC Sierra will gain an electric version in 2024.
The model, which has the long name of GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, was built on the Ultium platform, which equips, among other vehicles, the Hammer EV, and will have mechanics similar to its “smaller sister”.
The electrically powered Sierra will have two motors, one on each axle, which will guarantee four-wheel traction without the need for items such as a cardan shaft or center differential. Together, the two engines achieve a power of 764 hp, in addition to 108.5 kgfm of torque. In this way, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in just 4.5 seconds, even in a heavy vehicle.
GM did not reveal the size of the battery that powers the electric version of the GMC Sierra, but guarantees that the autonomy is 640 kilometers.
The automaker claims that the energy stored by the vehicle is capable of powering an American home for 21 days. Recharging can be done using 350 kW direct current chargers, capable of giving the battery a range of 160 km in ten minutes.
The model, like all pickup trucks, was also designed for off-road use, and also features adaptive air suspension. Furthermore, the GMC Sierra has the possibility of maneuvering with all four wheels in small spaces, as if it could “walk sideways”.
From the outside, the model draws attention to its imposing and aggressive front, which features a false grille and the design of the DRLs. Inside, the vehicle is finished in aluminum, stainless steel and rustic wood.
The multimedia center is vertical with sports selectors at the base, and draws attention due to its size, which makes the instrument panel small. The sunroof is panoramic and reflects infrared rays, maintaining the temperature in the cabin.
With pre-sales open, the GMC Sierra EV Denali 1 is priced at US$107,000.
