The first images of the highly anticipated Marvel crossover will revolve around the great villain of the story, only that one thing will probably be kept hidden until the film arrives in theaters
In recent days we have learned that in all likelihood the first trailer of Avengers: Doomsday will debut in front of theatrical copies of Avatar: Fire and Ashbut now new details may have emerged about it.
What we knew so far was that there would actually be several versions of the trailer, but the one due to be shown in December will reportedly highlight several scenes featuring the Doctor Doom played by Robert Downey Jr..
The villain should have an aesthetic inspired by the classic "Universal monsters" (there have also been some comparisons with The Phantom of the Opera), and although Doom will be "very present" in the trailer, it seems that a key detail regarding the character will be kept secret.
As revealed by insider Kristian Harloff, we will not see the face of Destiny in this first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which should debut in theaters starting from December 19th, the day on which Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released in American theaters.
Avengers: Doomsday, a scoop reveals the plan for Doctor Doom initially thought for Kang?
It would certainly not be unusual for the revelation of some elements to be postponed until subsequent trailers or directly to the film in theaters, but considering that everyone now knows that Doom will be played by Robert Downey Jr., it would still be quite surprising if we didn't get even a small glimpse of the villain's face.
It remains to be seen whether Marvel Studios will decide to release the teaser online at the same time as it will be shown in theaters, but it would be a wise choice to do so, because pirated versions of the footage will surely start circulating soon after.
"The way the character is described recalls the classic Universal monsters or films like The Phantom of the Opera. He is a tragic figure, and part of this tragedy is linked to his armor... Destiny must wear it because he has a destroyed body", revealed Chris Gore talking about what is shown in the first trailer. "He's scarred. Downey went completely in the 'Universal monster' direction. He needs armor to be able to survive".
Although some have called it the choice to show so much of the character a "desperate" move (although we could say it's a clever way to get the audience and fans used to the new interpretation of the character), the host added: "From what I hear, I think fans will be thrilled".
