The complex Predator saga has evolved in terms of lore and backstory on the alien culture Yautja thanks to the new chapter Predator: Badlandswhich confirmed a very important detail about this iconic breed of predators.
Dan Trachtenberg's film has in fact managed to clarify one thing about the Yautja who have appeared so far: they do not all belong to the same clan or race.
The first Predator film featured a Yautja hunter who was clearly skilled at jungle hunting. However, Predators (2010) introduced a major plot twist: the traditional Predator jungle hunter we had come to know and love had been supplanted (literally and figuratively) by a new breed of larger, stronger, darker-skinned Predators. Nicknamed "Super Predator"this new warrior class had even better hunting technology and accessories (the alien dogs of "Tracker", the drone bird of "Falconer", the powered helmet, armor, guns, blades and hunting equipment of "Berserker").
Trachtenberg's films (Prey, Killer of Killers, Badlands) featured warriors from the Predator homeworld, Yautja Prime: They are the same Super Predators seen in Predators, and so far we have encountered at least two distinct desert clans, il clan in "Njohrr"the feared leader who believes so deeply in the Yautja's doctrines of strength that he is willing to kill his own son, Dek, and the "Warlord's Clan"led by the fearsome King Grendel (it was he who sent the hunters to 18th century Earth in Prey and in the various eras of Killer of Killers).
A fascinating way to expand their ever-growing franchise. For other content, discover the Predator spin-off films to catch up on now.
