Adam Driver is working on a Star Wars spin-off film. That's why the project failed...

Adam Driver (41) almost got his own “Star Wars” film. The actor said in an interview with AP News that he worked on the film with director Steven Soderbergh (62). But Disney ultimately rejected the idea.

"I've always been interested in doing another Star Wars movie," Driver said. He took on the role of the antagonist Kylo Ren in the new trilogy. Ren's real name was Ben Solo, son of Han Solo and Leia Organa. "I've been talking about making another film since 2021," said the actor. Kathleen Kennedy (72) had contacted him. "I always said: With a very good director and a great story, I would be there straight away." He loved playing Kylo Ren.

Driver added that he has developed a concept for a spin-off film. Soderbergh and Rebecca Blunt (57) then developed a story from it. According to the interview, there was already a script. "It was one of the coolest scripts I've ever been involved in," Driver said. Lucasfilm is also said to have liked the script.

Disney bosses rejected the idea

The finished script was presented to Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, but both had objections. They didn't seem to see how Ben Solo could still be alive after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). So they rejected the film. "The project was called 'The Hunt for Ben Solo' and it was really cool," Driver said. "The film no longer exists, so I can finally talk about it."

Adam Driver will soon be seen in the drama "Father Mother Sister Brother". The cinema release in this country is on February 26, 2026.
