If you like horror and are looking for that chill down your spine, you've come to the right place! After a lot of research and experience watching several films from NetflixI managed to separate the top five in my opinion, either because they are very scary or because they convey an intense experience that goes far beyond the obvious scares. They all made me rethink whether watching alone was even a good idea.

I wanted to bring real experiences: each recommendation was followed to the end, without pause and with attentive eyes until the credits rolled. I've seen other better films on and off Netflix, but I've listed them here the best that are available today. So, enjoy the list, plan to watch it and if you've already watched it, see if you agree with me.

1. The Evil That Dwells Us (2023)

Since it was released in 2023, this Argentine film has dominated the networks and won over even those who have seen everything in the horror genre. The plot follows two brothers in a small village who discover a body contaminated by the devil, triggering a sequence of evil events that are almost unbearable to watch.

Overall, the film is well produced, has strong images, a strange atmosphere that leaves you apprehensive the entire time, while at the same time creating that feeling of helplessness. From the review notes, it seems like the film wasn't very well received, but I liked it. For those who want to test the limits of fear, it's worth watching The Evil That Inhabits Us.

2. Escape (2020)

Escape It's a psychological thriller that no one can fault! The story follows young Chloe, cared for by her overprotective mother, but who begins to suspect that she cannot trust those who have always been by her side. With each moment that the story unfolds, the tension grows suffocatingly, and the suspense lasts until the last minute.

This film has already been better received by specialized critics and the general public. The coolest thing is the conclusion of the story that leaves the mind restless until long after the film is over. I highly recommend watching this.

3. Secrets in the Walls (2021)

Another unique title that comes straight from Thailand. Secret in the Walls is a film that has that typical haunted house formula, but has some creative twists and family secrets that really send chills down your spine.

The plot follows two brothers who discover a mysterious hole in their grandparents' house, and from there supernatural events challenge even the most skeptical. I watched it with the lights on and found myself looking around several times during the night.

4. O Páramo (2022)

If you like psychological horror with a heavy atmosphere and isolation scenarios, O Páramo It's a cool choice among the options available on Netflix. The film follows a family who live far away in an isolated house and begin to be tormented by a mysterious entity that represents their greatest fears.

The main highlight is the construction of tension: the story unfolds slowly and puts you in the same state of restlessness as the characters. At several moments, I felt that classic horror movie chill, not so much from the scares, but from the growing, silent fear. The Spanish production was praised for its different proposal and visual quality, and is worth it for those who enjoy spine-chilling minimalist plots.

5. Sister Death (2023)

Of the most recent films on Netflix, I can only remember the Sister Death who It stands out for its supernatural atmosphere and also for the narrative that I consider very engaging. This is another Spanish production and follows Narcisa, a young novice with supernatural gifts, who goes to teach in an old convent full of mysteries and frightening events.

The film's visuals are dark and the plot delves deep into psychological horror, but every now and then it alternates between silent moments with macabre events that really make the viewer "gnash their teeth" in fear.
