Man with H, Esmir Filho (Netflix)
Intense biopic that traces, in a poetic and emotional way, the trajectory of Ney Matogrosso, from his humble childhood in Bela Vista (MS), marked by the authoritarianism of his military father, to his rise as an icon of music and Brazilian queer freedom. The film opens with the boy Ney facing domestic repression, gaining strength and voice when moving to Brasília, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. There, he works, studies theater and, like a pulsating body in search of expression, forms the revolutionary group Secos & Molhados with João Ricardo and Gerson Conrad. From the success of hits such as “Rosa de Hiroshima” and “O Vira”, Matogrosso emerges as a central figure in the resistance to the dictatorship, using his androgynous aesthetics and impactful performances — he dances and sings, and the cinema pulses along with him. More than a linear narrative, the film proposes a sensorial journey: the scenes mix biographical phases with atmospheres – in a continuous transition of time, body and emotion. Director Esmir Filho sculpts this bold cinematic experience with the collaboration of photographer Azul Serra, visually translating the trajectory of courage, pain, love and great losses that shaped the artist.
Baby girl, Halina Reijn (Prime Video)
In the heart of the corporate world, Romy, a powerful executive accustomed to giving orders and controlling everyone around her, sees her life turned upside down when a young intern, Samuel, completely reverses this dynamic. In a game of power and submission, Samuel imposes a simple rule: Romy obeys his every command, and, in return, he keeps the true nature of this forbidden relationship a secret. What begins as a private and silent pact soon goes beyond the office, turning into an uncontrollable and self-destructive passion. The relationship between Romy and Samuel reveals much more than desire: it exposes vulnerabilities, ambitions and emotional scars that both try to hide under the mask of professionalism. As desire mixes with fear and pleasure gives way to danger, the protagonists plunge into a territory where there are no winners, just survivors trying to keep up appearances while everything falls apart inside.
Sebastian, Mikko Mäkelä (Reserva Imovision)
Max, a 25-year-old freelance writer living in London, divides his life between day and night, between writing and desire. During the day, he tries to support himself with articles and stories; At night, he transforms into Sebastian, a sexual escort who uses his intimate experiences as raw material for his first novel. As literary and financial ambitions intertwine, Max questions whether “Sebastian” is just a tool for his work or already represents an essential, and perhaps truer, part of his identity. The narrative unfolds as a psychological and emotional study: Max's search for authenticity brings him face to face with the limits between fiction and reality, work and pleasure, shame and freedom. He finds himself drawn to clients, such as the seductive Nicholas (Jonathan Hyde), and supported by the friendship of Amna (Hiftu Querom), while dealing with the stigma and internal conflict that accompanies a double life. With an intimate approach and without explicit judgments, the film reveals a journey of self-discovery that exposes the layers of identity, desire and emotional economy that structure contemporary existence.
Dangerous Temptation, Maria Sadowska (Looke!)
Inez, an ambitious young journalist, receives her first big challenge: spending three days alongside Victor, a renowned international football star, to write an exclusive profile. What appears as a rare opportunity — access to the luxury of VIP boxes, glamorous parties and behind-the-scenes media coverage, gradually reveals a dark and oppressive side. As Inez delves into the player's everyday life, she discovers that the glare of the spotlight also hides manipulation, dangerous secrets, and a power dynamic that can quickly turn into a threat. The growing proximity between reporter and athlete opens up space for subtle psychological games, emotional tension and seduction hovering over a fine line. Inez finds herself torn between fulfilling her journalistic mission and facing the reality that arises: her integrity, physical and moral, is put to the test. Maria Sadowska creates a sharp psychological thriller, highlighting how women, even in a professional position, can find themselves cornered in the face of powerful figures. The previously inexperienced journalist goes through an intense journey of discoveries, challenges and risky choices.
Love Bleeds, Rose Glass (Max)
In her second feature film, director Rose Glass reinvents the romantic thriller by uniting two unlikely figures in a scenario of violence and desire. Lou, a lonely and introspective gym manager, leads a reclusive and controlled life until she meets Jackie, a charismatic bodybuilder who passes through the city on her way to Las Vegas, where she intends to compete in an important championship. The meeting between the two women begins an intense passion, marked both by complicity and by a fierce desire for freedom, emotional and physical. However, this romance, which could be an escape route for both, soon finds itself threatened by external forces. Lou unwittingly drags Jackie into her own family's criminal underworld, plunging them both into a spiral of crime, debt and violence. As Lou's troubled past comes to light, the film questions how far love can serve as redemption or whether, on the contrary, it can become fuel for mutual destruction. With dense atmosphere, vibrant aesthetics and visceral performances, the film constructs an unsettling portrait of the intersection between desire, vulnerability and violence.
