Mastermindthe new film from the acclaimed director and screenwriter Kelly Reichardtarrived in Argentine cinemas. It is one of the most anticipated productions of the year, since the filmmaker has established herself as one of the most interesting voices in American cinema and has assembled an outstanding cast for this black comedy set in the '70s.
"In a quiet Massachusetts suburb, circa 1970, JB Mooney, an unemployed family man and amateur art thief, embarks on his first robbery. With the museum under surveillance and accomplices recruited, he has an infallible plan. Or so he thinks", reads the official synopsis. The film puts on stage a complete antihero in the skin of Josh O'Connorone of the most resonant actors of today, who delivers one of the best roles of his career.
Reichardt's new film, which is distributed by Mubi, is receiving excellent reviews. After First Cow y Showing Upthe director surprises with a film designed for broader audiences. From OtroCines they assured that it is "another example of the talent and the multiple facets of a filmmaker who never stops experimenting and, luckily, surprising." Writing Cinema agrees along the same line: “Kelly Reichardt takes a fascinating journey through 1970s America, where an innocent robbery turns into an escape that resonates with the fight against the Vietnam War and current political tensions.”.
Finally, in his analysis of the film, Roger Koza wrote for La Voz del Interior: "Robbery has always interested Reichardt. (...) It serves from the beginning for Reichardt to dabble in humor. There are crazy situations in the preparation, achievement and consequences of the museum robbery."
