As reported by Car Newspaper during a EX30 world premierea Volvo asks an average of 36 thousand euros for the electric SUV in the European market. In Brazil, it is not yet known how much it will cost. However, according to executives at Swedish automaker during the presentation event, when it arrives (in 2024) it should be around R$230 thousand. And the promise must come true, after all, in the United States, the model has a price of Honda CR-V.
In the North American market, the Volvo EX30 starts at US$34,950 (almost R$170 thousand, in direct conversion). Reservations are now accepted, with a deposit of US$500 (just over R$2,400). It’s just a cut above the CR-V Hybrid – will arrive in Brazil later this year -, which costs no less than US$32,950 (R$159.6 thousand). Prices reported on US automaker websites.

Price may no longer be an obstacle
With this initiative, Volvo’s idea is to lower the bar and, in this way, win over customers who have not yet entered the world of trams due to the high price. It’s not possible to talk about “popularization”, but perhaps a slightly more concrete path towards the dissemination of battery-powered models.
During an interview with the Brazilian press in Milan (Italy) – the stage for the EX90’s debut -, the executives stated that they intend, in Brazil, to take even customers from Jeep. In other words, the objective is to not only bring new consumers into the electric vehicle universe, but also into the premium segment. After all, this will directly affect brands like Audi, BMW e Mercedes-Benzfor example, which do not have electric models in this price range.
Volvo/Disclosure
To achieve this distinction, therefore, Volvo benefits from reduced production costs. In short, the Swedish brand uses the SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) electric platform from Chinese Geely – owner of the brand. Thus, it takes advantage of the Chinese manufacturing structure to reduce expenses in the production process.
With a low price and cutting-edge technology, the Volvo EX30 poses a challenge to the consumer. After all, for the same price, is it better to get an SUV with a combustion engine or an SUV of the same size with a 100% electric engine?
