two violent and very fun series, while ‘The boys’ does not return

While the new (and final) season of ‘The Boys’ doesn’t arrive on Prime Video, two series that are just as violent and fun (and with a comic book and video game atmosphere) have just finished their second seasons: ‘Peacemaker’ and ‘Twisted metal’, both shown here on HBO and HBO Max streaming.

Created by James Gunn, ‘Peacemaker’ (HBO’s most watched series) focuses on Christopher Smith (John Cena), who we saw in the second “Suicide Squad” film (also directed by Gunn), now involved in an interdimensional journey that expands the DC universe and connects directly with types of the new Superman (the new season takes place in the timeline immediately following the film).

The second season delved into the concept of the multiverse, with the Peacemaker going to live in one of these parallel worlds, where he still has his brother alive, and is on good terms with his girlfriend, Emilia Harcourt. With eight episodes, the season ended with an internal dilemma for the protagonist, as he deals with the consequences of his past actions (and finds himself in a situation that already guarantees the third season). The performance of John Cena (former WWF fighter), who balances emotional vulnerability with comic brutality, is the highlight. In addition to the soundtrack, with a lot of farofa metal.

‘Twisted metal’ is an adaptation of a famous PlayStation game, produced by the American streaming company Peacock (from NBC), which found a home here on HBO. With 12 episodes, the season brought back John Doe (Anthony Mackie, much better here than as the new Captain America in theaters) alongside his partner, Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz). The plot expanded the post-apocalyptic universe with new combat arenas and famous characters from the games.

While American fans have already watched the outcome (which was on August 28th), Brazilians need to wait another week, connected to HBO Max, where the episodes are released on Thursdays. The ending leaves open the possibility of a third season, although there is still no official confirmation. I hope it continues, as it’s a good series, just without the hype it deserves.
