Toyota RAV4 beats Ford F-150 and was the best-selling car in the USA in 2024

North Americans’ preference for pickup trucks is clear, just look at the ranking of the best-selling vehicles in the United States. For 43 uninterrupted years, the Ford F-150 led the number of registrations. This invincibility, however, came to an end: the Toyota RAV4 was the best-selling car there in 2024.

Felipe Munoz, global analyst at Jato Dynamics, analyzed US sales figures. The Ford F-150 registered 460,915 units in 2024, a drop of just 5%, but it was enough to make room for the RAV4. Toyota sold 475,193 units, up 9%. This is a difference of 14,278 vehicles and only 3% less.

Munoz mentioned that the result published by Ford would be different due to the sum of other pickup trucks and this, in fact, happened. Ford released a statement talking about how the F-Series is leading sales for the 48th in a row, also adding the results of the F-250 and F-350, but does not mention the performance of just the F-150.

Another model enjoying a good moment in the USA is the Honda CR-V, which grew 11% in 2024 and closed the year with 402,791 units sold. Soon after comes the Tesla Model Y, losing 3% of customers and registering 372,613 vehicles, a drop that can be justified by the fact that the restyled version is close to being launched.

Fifth place is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which fell 2% and sold 344,022 units. Toyota has more reasons to celebrate with the Camry (309,875) in sixth place and the Corolla (283,098) in seventh place, growth of 7% and 22%, respectively. Still waiting for its launch in Brazil, the Nissan X-Trail (245,724), known there as Rogue, was the eighth best-selling.
