Just arrived in the catalog Netflix the newest comedy starring, written and produced by Adam Sandleralso a nod to the beginning of his career that established him as a cornerstone of cheap American humor. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 2 takes up the narrative of the prodigy athlete Gilmore, who discovers he has the best swing in the history of golf and uses his talent to earn money for his grandmother’s house. Along the way, he faces the customs of the PGA Championship and the trickery of his competitors, but he overcomes it. Almost 30 years later, the character is now coming out of retirement to pay for his daughter’s studies. The film is another chapter in the partnership between Sandler and Netflix, which also makes several of his biggest hits available — with the exception of the romantic epic Drunk with Loveby Paul Thomas Anderson, whose home is HBO Max. Check out the five best options found in red streaming below:
You’re Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah! (2023)
Made as a stage for Sandler’s first-born daughter, the teenager Sunny Madeline, the film is, therefore, the most sentimental example of his recent production. Merging fiction and reality, the actor plays the father of Stacy Friedman, a Jewish teenager about to celebrate her bat mitzvah, a religious ceremony similar to a debutante ball, in which 12-year-old girls formalize the transition to adulthood. The family’s plans, however, are comically shattered after the girl’s best friend and the boy of her dreams are seen kissing. Relegating the spotlight to the heiress, Sandler steps out of the clown role and demonstrates a refreshingly casual sensitivity.
Throwing High (2022)
Alongside Queen Latifah, Sandler delves into the world of sport without making fun of it. In the drama, he plays a recruiter of basketball players who dreams of becoming a coach. Traveling around the globe, he searches for the talent that can change his life, until he finds it in Spain. Without formal training, Bo (Juancho Hernangomez) starts to practice tirelessly in order to reach the NBA, thus revealing the sacrifices and bureaucracy inherent to the top echelon of basketball in the United States.
The Meyerowitzes: Family Doesn’t Choose Itself (2017)
In this dramedy, Sandler plays the brother of another famous figure in American comedy: Ben Stiller. Together, they are the children of an eccentric artist played by veteran Dustin Hoffman. The family comes together in the name of a new exhibition of the patriarch and soon begins to display all its hilarious dysfunction. The film also features Emma Thompson and is written and directed by Noah Baumbach, an exponent of “mumblecore” cinema from the 2000s — a wave marked by a low budget, a naturalistic approach and a touching emphasis on interpersonal relationships.
Uncut Gems (2019)
No Sandler performance, however, is as electrifying as his work in Uncut Gemsa breathtaking thriller in which the comedian plays a New York jeweler addicted to sports betting. Adrenaline leads him to increasingly risky circumstances that threaten not only his integrity, but that of those around him. In her orbit, Julia Fox also creates a character so remarkable that she was catapulted to worldwide fame and status as a it girl in fashion circles. Sandler was nominated for awards such as Critics’ Choice for his work and hit the goalposts at the Oscars.
