‘The Black Phone 2’ surpasses the debut of its predecessor in Brazilian cinemas

A success among horror films, the premiere of “The Black Phone 2” surpassed the opening of its predecessor in Brazilian cinemas. The film’s sequel grossed R$6.35 million and was seen by 290,000 people between Thursday and Sunday, giving it the box office leadership over the weekend, according to new data from Comscore.

When it opened in Brazil in July 2022, “O Telephone Preto” earned R$4.1 million (R$4.6 million in updated values) with 203 thousand spectators — including the preview, 360 thousand tickets were sold. That year, the film surpassed the 1 million viewer mark in five weeks.

The new horror overtook “Tron: Ares”, whose income over the weekend was R$2.74 million for an audience of 116 thousand people, a number that placed it in second place after debuting at the top.

“A Casa Mágica da Gabby – O FIlme” was also on the podium, with R$ 2.25 million in box office and 101 thousand spectators.

The national comedy “Perrengue Fashion”, starring Ingrid Guimarães, came in fourth. The production raised R$1.63 million with 72 thousand tickets sold.

In total, cinemas generated R$17.58 million in revenue over the weekend. The audience was 785 thousand spectators in theaters spread across the country.
