There are films that are nice surprises. This is the case of this “Gang of the Amazons” which avoids many clichés to touch the heart thanks to the acting of the actresses. On paper, we feared the film about a group of friends united in life and death who puff out their chests like in an Aya Nakamura song. This is not the case. Filmmaker Melissa Drigeard; who honed his first skills in comedy (“Never on the first night”, “Everything smiles on us”, “Hawaii”) signs a work close to the best Ken Loach, where the darkness of the social vein is counterbalanced by the solidarity between the five female companions in misfortune.

The robberies committed by young women are never presented as heroic gestures, for fun or out of a taste for challenge. It is out of necessity that they act and precisely when one of them gains too much confidence she makes the mistake too much. As the reluctant leader of the gang, Izïa Higelin shines on the screen while Lyna Khoudri confirms that she has a crazy presence on screen. But the one who surprises the most is Laura Felpin in a moving counter-job, always on a tightrope.
