The 2025 Silverado’s new lid has already been recalled in the USA; understand

A few days ago, we at Motor1.com Brazil we announced that Chevrolet’s large pickup truck had received a curious standard item in the 2025 line: the flexible opening of the bed, called Multi-Flex by the brand. Item that its main rival, the Ford F-150, lost at the turn of the model year.

Offered on the American market for a few years now, the lid offers different types of opening, diversifying its functions beyond opening and closing the bucket, such as the option of a load extender, access step and even an auxiliary table. However, not everything is rosy and the new accessory appears to be facing some malfunctions, as the accessory is undergoing a heavy recall in the lines of the Silverado and its sister brand GMC, called Sierra, with greater focus on work.

According to General Motors, in its official recall statement, issued in February this year, 323,232 units of the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD were at risk of unexpected opening of the rear lid. Recently, an additional 132,037 units were included in this cake, which include pickup trucks in the 2500 and 3500 configuration, manufactured in 2024, regardless of cabin configuration or traction type, but only affects those with an electrically locking bed lid.

According to the brand’s report, it is possible that water infiltration could cause damage to the power switch that controls the lock. This may cause the tailgate to unlock and open. This can be a safety hazard if you have a bed with loose loads, and it can also be a problem if you are pulling a trailer, which is common among full-size pickup truck owners in the US.

According to recall documents, GM received 237 complaints from owners about rear doors opening unexpectedly. There are no reports of accidents or injuries resulting from the problem.

Still among the items in the document, the brand informs that the rear door cannot unlock while the pickup trucks are in motion. The body control module overrides any input from the power tailgate lock, keeping it locked until the trucks are stopped and the gear shift is in P.

For affected models, GM’s solution is to replace the switch assemblies with updated parts that are more resistant to water infiltration.

In Brazil, the Silverado with the new Multi-Flex lid was launched in November, in the High Country version with a 5.3 V8 engine, costing R$548,090. There are still no records of units that were affected by the lid opening problem, nor whether Chevrolet do Brasil will carry out the same recall that is in force in the USA.
