Taylor Swift: The singer’s new film tops the box office – 10/04/2025 – Illustrated

Taylor Swift isn’t just reaping good results with the release of “The Life of a Showgirl”, her new album. The singer is also having success with “The Official Release Party of a Show Girl”, a film that celebrates the new project with behind-the-scenes footage.

This Friday, the film grossed US$15.8 million, establishing itself as the leader at the United States box office. In second place is “One Battle After Another”, by Paul Thomas Anderson. “Fighter’s Heart”, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, comes soon after, in third place.

“The Life of a Showgirl”, Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album, was released in the early hours of this Friday. The album debuted at number one on Apple Music and became the most pre-saved album on Spotify, surpassing “The Tortured Poets Department”, the singer’s last. On the same platform, it also became the most listened to album in a single day of 2025, in just 11 hours.

Critics received the album mixed. Variety, an important entertainment magazine in the United States, said that “The Life of a Showgirl” is an “album of contagious joy.” The English newspaper The Guardian gave two stars to the album, which stated it was “weak in melodies”.

While the Reuters news agency assesses that “The Life of a Showgirl” presents “a pop phenomenon at the height of her power”, the music magazine NME said that it is a “rare mistake” by Swift, with embarrassing lyrics.
