Superman will get a spin-off series focused on Jimmy Olsen

The DC universe will gain a new series derived from the film Supermanby James Gunn, focusing on one of the film’s most charismatic characters: Jimmy Olsen. The production will be developed by the creators of American VandalDan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, who will serve as writers, executive producers and showrunners of the new attraction.

Skyler Gisondo, who played the photographer in Daily Planet Jimmy Olsen will return to the role that became one of the highlights of the film released in July. The project is being developed to explore the daily life of the newspaper’s newsroom, following Olsen and other reporters from the newspaper Daily Planet – with the exception of Lois Lane and Clark Kent – ​​while investigating cases involving villains with superpowers.

Villain confirmed

The first season will focus on Gorilla Grodd, a super-intelligent and evil gorilla who rules the mysterious Gorilla Cityin Africa. Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, the character first appeared in the comics of Flash in 1959 and is considered one of the scarlet sprinter’s main enemies.

With Perrault and Yacenda at the helm, the series promises to adopt a tone of intelligent humor, along the lines of The Office e American Vandalwhich satirized true crime productions and was nominated for an Emmy and won a Peabody Award. The duo also created Playersa sports documentary parody released by Paramount+.

Perrault recently wrote the comedy Bad for Dogsfrom Universal, starring talking dogs, while Yacenda directed episodes of the series Chad Powersstarring Glenn Powell.

James Gunn and Peter Safran, heads of DC Studios, are also executive producing the new series, with Galen Vaisman overseeing the project for the studio.

Jimmy Olsen’s series does not yet have a defined title or release date, but it should expand the universe started by the new Superman.
