Electric midsize SUV from the American brand arrived to compete with consolidated models in the premium segment, but was unsuccessful
O Chevrolet Equinox EV arrived at market in October 2024 with a suggested price of R$419,990. Some time later, its value rose to R$440,190. But with only 28 copies sold in 2025 according to ABVthe average SUV now sells for R$349,990, which represents a discount of R$90,200.
When it was launched at the end of 2024, the Auto Secrets pointed out that the SUV arrived to operate in the premium segment with already established competitors, such as the Volvo C40 and the BMW iX1.
In this segment, it is not enough to be a good product, to have a good list of equipment, the buyer also values the status that the product can convey, and in this regard, the Chevrolet Equinox EV did not achieve its objective. The discount of R$ 90,200 and the very low registration numbers are proof that the SUV did not appeal to this type of customer.
The Chevrolet Equinox EV beats its main rivals in autonomy by offering 443 kilometers in the Inmetro standard on a full charge. The Volvo C40 offers 385 km and the BMW iX1 has 303 km.
Its dimensions are also more generous than the Swedish and German models, winning in all dimensions. The Equinox EV is 4.84 meters long, 1.95 m wide, 1.65 m high and has a wheelbase of 2.95 m. Its 441-liter trunk loses to the iX1’s 490l, but beats the C40’s 413l.
The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV also outperforms its competitors in terms of performance. With two engines and all-wheel drive, the SUV has 292 hp and 46 kgfm of torque. Top speed is limited to 187 km/h. The SUV goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds, a time that makes it faster than the 7.3 s of the C40 and more than the 5.6 s of the iX1.
However, even though it had better numbers than the Volvo C40 and BMW iX1, this was not enough to attract the segment’s demanding customers. After all, you don’t build a premium brand image overnight.
Captiva EV
The low sales numbers of the Chevrolet Equinox EV and its significant price reduction show that the path of Captiva EVof Chinese origin, will not have an easy life in the Brazilian market if it does not have correct price positioning.
