Ram’s new midsize pickup has images and release date confirmed

Already spotted in Argentina, Ram’s new midsize pickup had its first images released by the brand. The company also confirmed a date for its launch. What we know so far is that this new product will use as a base the recently renewed Fiat Titano, which started to be manufactured in Argentina after a series of mechanical improvements and equipment list.

The only video released by Ram so far shows the brand’s characteristic grille, with the “RAM” emblem highlighted, but without revealing much about what the final look of this new medium pickup truck will look like. Also displayed are items such as a roof lighting rack and a sequence of orange lights on what appears to be the upper portion of the grille, or hood, strictly following the look of US pickup trucks. The vehicle in the video even had wheels and tires for heavier off-road use, a “Ram Turbo” badge on the hood. On the rear, the “Nightfall” badge indicates a possible version name.

The sighting in Argentina last week showed a heavily camouflaged unit, pointing to visual changes that go beyond the change of emblems. The basis continues to be the platform developed by the Chinese Changan, which gave rise to the variants sold by Stellantis (Fiat Titano and Peugeot Landtrek). However, Ram’s new pickup truck will be inspired by the restyled Hunter, recently launched in China with important improvements in finishing and construction.

Although the Ram brand was born as a division of Stellantis’ work and continues with this focus in several markets, here the brand has built a different image. The investment in imported full-size pickup trucks, such as the 1500 and 2500, helped to consolidate a more premium positioning.

Hence the Rampage was born, derived from the Toro, but with a finish and design that aim higher. With the new pickup based on the Titano, the strategy is similar: offering something more sophisticated than the version made by the Italian company. The mechanics, it seems, will be the same: the 2.2 Multijet II turbodiesel engine, already used in the Titano itself, in addition to models such as Toro and Jeep Commander. It delivers 200 hp and 45.9 kgfm of torque, always with automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or 4×4, depending on the version.

There is an expectation that the new product will revive the name Dakota, a mid-size pickup that was produced in Brazil between 1998 and 2001. However, confirmation will only come with the presentation of the new Ram pickup, a debut that already has a date to take place: August 13th.
