Ram extends warranty to 10 years in the USA due to financing

Ram announced the extension of the powertrain warranty for its pickup trucks and vans in the United States, starting with line 2026. The new term will be 10 years or 100 thousand miles (160 thousand kilometers), whichever comes first. Coverage will only be valid for combustion models, excluding fully electric vehicles.

The measure represents a significant increase compared to the current coverage of five years or 60,000 miles, a standard also followed by other brands such as Ford, General Motors and Toyota in the North American market.

According to Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis, the decision considers current consumer behavior. According to him, 85% of pickup truck buyers finance their vehicles for at least seven years, while many keep the models for more than a decade.

“They keep the vehicle for 12 years, finance it for seven. But the warranty continues to be five years. This does not keep up with the market reality,” said Kuniskis at a press conference.

He highlighted that the lack of coverage after the warranty ends has a direct impact on customer loyalty:

“If there is a gap between the end of the warranty and the end of payments, it is likely that the consumer will not return to the same brand”

The new warranty will be valid exclusively for the first owner and covers retail purchases and leasing for both individuals and companies. Vehicles purchased for fleets are excluded.

Coverage includes engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, differentials and axles. Among the models covered are the RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 pickup trucks, the ProMaster vans and special versions such as the Power Wagon and RHO.

For representatives of the dealership network, such as Michael Bettenhausen, president of the Stellantis National Reseller Council, the decision strengthens the brand’s image. “It’s a direct message to the consumer about the company’s confidence in the product. And it comes at a time when vehicles are being used for longer and with greater demand.”
