Ram confirmed that it will launch a new mid-size pickup truck in 2027, aimed at the North American market, marking the brand’s return to the segment after the departure of the Dakota in 2011.
The announcement was made by Stellantis CEO, Antonio Filosa, who highlighted that the model will be “simply fantastic”.
In Brazil, the news will come in parallel: the brand will bring the Dakota, derived from the Fiat Titano, promised for 2026 and with a more sophisticated proposal.

Ram’s plan to return to the midsize pickup truck segment had been discussed for a few years.
In 2025, Stellantis officially confirmed that the Belvidere factory, in Illinois (USA), will reopen to produce the new truck.
The initiative seeks to fill the gap left by the Dakota and compete for space with models such as the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado.
During the Kepler Cheuvreux Autumn Conference, Filosa revealed that he had closely followed the first prototypes of the vehicle at the brand’s design center in Detroit.
According to the executive, the new pickup is “beautiful and incredible”, reinforcing the automaker’s enthusiasm for the project.
Modern platform and engine options
The expectation is that the truck will be built on the STLA Frame platform, already used in models such as the Ram 1500 Ramcharger.
This base will allow for combustion, plug-in hybrid and even electric versions, offering flexibility in the face of different market demands.
With dimensions ranging between 5.48 and 5.94 meters in length, the platform was designed to fit robust pickup trucks.
However, the version destined for the medium segment will have adjustments to compete directly with Japanese and North American rivals.
Name still under definition
Although the public associates the novelty with the name Dakota, Stellantis must adopt another name for the United States.
This is because the Dakota badge is already reserved for the model that will be launched in Brazil in 2026.
In the USA, rumors indicate that the truck will only be offered in the double cab configuration, the most popular in the country.
The price will also be strategic: the new mid-size pickup truck should start at around US$30,000, well below the extinct 1500 Classic, the brand’s last entry option in the USA.
Luxury Dakota for the Brazilian market
Meanwhile, Brazil is preparing to receive an exclusive version. Confirmed in August, the Ram Dakota will be based on the Fiat Titano, but will have a more sophisticated finish and a redesigned look.
Produced in Córdoba, Argentina, the truck will be equipped with a 200 hp 2.2 turbodiesel engine, eight-speed automatic transmission and 4×4 traction.
The Dakota Nightfall concept, already shown in the country, anticipated part of the design of the final version. Among the differentiators are an exclusive front grille, new LED headlights and a sports bar.
Although radical elements such as 33-inch tires and a front winch will not reach the production version, the model should maintain much of its robust style.
Strategy inspired by rivals
Ram’s decision follows a trend already consolidated in the market. Just as Toyota offers the Hilux in Brazil and the Tacoma in the USA, the brand is betting on different models to meet local preferences.
While in the North American market the new mid-size pickup will seek to combine robustness and versatility, in Brazil the Dakota will be aimed at those who want a refined pickup truck, but without compromising on work power.
With competitive prices and a wide range of versions, Stellantis is betting on a global repositioning of Ram, targeting not only traditional consumers, but also those looking for innovation and connectivity in their pickup trucks.
