A RAM Rampage was officially presented for Europe. It happened last weekend during Fieracavalli, in Italy.
This pick-up aims to “anticipate the needs of European customers”, being a compact premium pick-up that is positioned between C-SUVs and a mid-size pick-up.
Diesel or gasoline, off-road or sports
RAM Rampage has two versions. The Rebel is specially made for off-roadwith a 2.2 Multijet turbo diesel engine. Power reaches 200 hp and it takes 9.9 seconds to accelerate between 0 and 100 km/h, with a maximum speed of 196 km/h.
The other, R/T, is sportierwith a Hurricane 4 turbo gasoline engine that can reach 272 hp and speeds of more than 220 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 6.9 seconds.
Regardless of the variant, there is a nine-speed automatic transmission with rotary selector and the option for manual gearshifts using paddles on the steering wheel. Traction is also always integral.
Robust design
Anyone who sees the RAM Rampage finds a robust and muscular pickup, measuring 5,028 millimeters long, 1,716 millimeters high and 1,886 millimeters wide. These are dimensions that allow you to balance stability and also agility to face urban traffic.
The front headlights are full-LED, with lamps that have high and low beam functions and dynamic side turn indicators. The LED fog lights include cornering lighting function. There are automatic headlights.
The rear lights create a pattern that refers to the flag of the United States of America – the country of origin of RAM. To the Rebel, several graphite finishes and the application of black are added.
As for the R/T, more focused on a sporty character, it has a more aerodynamic design, with dedicated 19-inch wheels, glossy black details, a black roof and graphics on the bonnet.
It also has stiffer suspension springs and a ten millimeter lower ground clearance. The Rampage can carry 980 liters of cargo on board.
RAM equipped the car with rain and sunset sensors, as well as electrically folding interior rear-view mirrors.
O interior
RAM chose to use premium materials in this pickup. The seats are soft to the touch, with suede or perforated suede leather for the R/T – which has exclusive red stitching.
Dual-zone onboard climate control or LED interior lighting are also highlights. The leather is also found on the instrument panel. It’s black on the Rebel and suede on the R/T.
The steering wheel of this Rampage has a Sport button on the Rebel variant. When activated, the instrument panel transforms, in addition to the accelerator and steering responses becoming quicker. The Rebel’s interior includes washable surfaces.
In the case of the R/T, there is a specific sports steering wheel, as well as finishes specific to this variant and a cabin that is more focused on the driver.
The equipment includes a premium Harman Kardon audio system with nine speakers and a subwoofer, in addition to a large central console and six USB sockets (three of which are Type-C). The instrument panel consists of a 10.3-inch screen and is fully digital.
Technology
In terms of infotainment, the RAM Rampage system includes a 12.3-inch central screen. It is possible to connect smartphones via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
There are multiple advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), in a Level 2 package. With Active Driver Assist, there is traffic jam assistance and highway assistance – features that automatically adjust the car’s speed and position on the road based on the driver’s instructions and traffic.
There is forward collision warning with mitigation and detection and autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop&go, lane departure warning, blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert.
When it comes to passive safety, the RAM Rampage is equipped with seven airbags. Then there are other technologies, such as remote Keyless Enter’n Go vehicle ignition.
