New horror film is already a hit, even though it hasn’t even been released in Germany yet – but German cinema dominates the charts here – Kino News

While German cinema has topped the charts here with “The School of Magical Animals 4”, “Amrum” and “The Canoe of Manitu”, a new horror hit has already started in the USA: “Black Phone 2”.

“Paranormal Activity”, “Insidious”, “The Purge”: With its cheaply produced, but mostly high-quality horror films, the horror film production company Blumhouse was a guaranteed hit in Hollywood for years. But recently Blumhouse’s successful model seemed to have faltered a bit after “Wolf Man”, “The Woman In The Yard” and “Drop” were all not big hits and “M3GAN 2.0” even became a real disappointment at the box office. But as is so often the case in Hollywood, everything can change with the next film – as happened with “Black Phone 2”.

“Black Phone 2” on the road to success

The sequel to the horror thriller “The Black Phone – Never Talk to Strangers” was released in the USA and some other countries last weekend According to initial estimates, it has already grossed $42 million at launch – including $26.5 million in the USA and $15.5 million in the rest of the world. The US box office result was better than previously expected. The 15.5 million outside North America is more than “The Black Phone” or the vampire hit “Blood & Sinners” grossed in the same markets in the same period.

With a budget of a rumored $30 million, the opening result of “Black Phone 2” is not yet enough to put Blumhouse and Studio Universal in the blackbut this should happen by the second weekend at the latest.

Especially since the horror sequel received solid to good reviews and audience ratings, around 3.5 out of 5 stars from FILMSTARTS.de. Besides that “Black Phone 2” is still launching in some large markets, including Germany (namely on October 23, 2025).

This past weekend, however, German cinema dominated this country once again in three very different forms: According to figures from The Spot In the last few days, around 230,000 children and parents bought a ticket for The School of Magical Animals 4which means that the fourth part of the film series, which we like to call the “German Harry Potter”, has already sold two million tickets – as the fifth film of 2025.

Another one of these films is Das Kanu de Manitewhich made it to number 3 in the charts with around 80,000 tickets sold and is slowly but surely approaching the 5 million mark. Second place, however, went to Fatih Akin’s war drama Amrumwhich attracted almost 100,000 people to the cinemas and has already sold a total of 285,000 tickets.

By the way, not only “Black Phone 2” will be released on October 23, 2025, but also another horror film: namely “Frankenstein” by Guillermo del Toro. You can watch the trailer here:
