Honda launched the sixth generation of the CR-V, the brand’s best-selling car in the United States. Expected to arrive in Brazil in 2023, the model gained a more modern and robust look compared to the previous one.
The SUV was presented in four versions, the first two, EX and EXL, are offered with a 1.5 liter turbo engine with 190 hp and 24.7 kgfm of torque with CVT transmission.
The more expensive options, Sport and Touring, use a 2.0 engine combined with two electric motors. The mechanical package generates 207 hp and 34.1 kgfm of torque, the most powerful in the history of the CR-V.
Although Honda has not yet officially confirmed, the expectation is that the Touring version, top of the line in the USA, will be the only one chosen to come to Brazil. In this way, this will be the third hybrid model from the Japanese automaker to arrive here, after the Accord sedans and the New Civic, the latter scheduled to arrive later this year.
With production in the USA and Canada, the CR-V now measures 4.69m in length (+ 6.8cm), 2.70m in wheelbase (+ 4cm) and 1.86m in width (+ 1cm). Only the height was maintained at 1.69m.
According to Honda data, the model gained 15% more rigidity, and now offers more comfort for the legs. The area that did most well with the expansion of the vehicle’s size was the trunk, which now holds up to 1,027 liters of capacity.
The design of the new CR-V 2023 features Honda’s new visual identity at the front, with a wider front grille, full-LED headlights and a new bumper design. There are two air intakes, the lower one featuring chrome details on the edges.
The rear is even more timid in appearance if we compare it to the new features at the front. The lanterns maintain the DNA of the CR-V line with an “L” shape, but the silver thread that connected the lanterns has been removed. The space for the license plate is now higher in this new generation, while the rear bumper is more discreet than the front.
The CR-V’s cabin features several new equipment that were recently introduced in the New Civic. The multimedia center screen is 7 or 9 inches, the size varies between versions, with the more expensive options being compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A strip placed in the middle of the panel stands out for offering space for the air conditioning outlet and blends in with the look of the finish.
In the images released, the CR-V displays the instrument panel with analog indicators and a 7-inch screen. The list of equipment includes an electronic parking brake, a multifunctional steering wheel and a center console that is new to the brand’s models. The wheels are 18 or 19 inches, varying between versions.
The new CR-V 2023 comes with the Honda Sensing safety system, consisting of adaptive cruise control, descent assistant, blind spot warning, lane keeping assistant, new cameras for detecting cyclist and pedestrian traffic, front, side and knee airbags, as well as a traffic sign reader.
According to Mike Kistemaker, assistant vice president of sales at Honda in the USA, hybrid versions should represent 50% of units sold in the region. CR-V prices should be released soon.
