Netflix premieres documentary about one of the country’s most shocking crimes

The documentary “Eloá Case: Hostage Live” premiere on Netflix on November 12th. Eloá Pimentel, a 15-year-old teenager, was held captive by her ex-boyfriend, Lindemberg Alves, in October 2008, in Santo André, São Paulo.

The kidnapping lasted approximately 100 hours and received extensive national media coverage, which complicated rescue operations by the police. The production of the documentary offers a new perspective on the incident, highlighting violence against women.

Seizure

Amid extreme tensions, Lindemberg Alves rejected the end of the relationship and broke into Eloá’s apartment, keeping her and Nayara Rodrigues hostage. The intense live broadcast of negotiations between the police and Lindemberg ended up making the process difficult.

The tragic outcome resulted in Eloá’s death after a rescue attempt by the authorities.

Documentary approach

Directed by Cris Ghattas, the documentary not only details the kidnapping, but also investigates the prolonged impacts on Eloá’s family and friends. With never-before-seen interviews, the production brings to light testimonies from Eloá’s parents and information about her life before the event, including excerpts from her personal diary.

The documentary also highlights the moving narratives of Douglas, Eloá’s brother, and Grazieli Oliveira, her friend, who speak publicly about the case for the first time.
