Jim Carrey would be a great Freddy Krueger for the director of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 3’

The director of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream WarriorsChuck Russell, has shown his interest in returning to the Freddy Krueger universe, as long as he has the support of the original figures of the saga, including Patricia Arquette and Robert Englund.

In a recent conversation with Dread Central’s Development Hell podcast, Russell made his disposition clear: “I would love to do another ‘Elm Street’ if everyone would agree”he commented, enthusiastically highlighting the idea of ​​​​reuniting the classic cast.

The director highlighted Arquette’s talent, stating that “She was great and had a great career”and added that it would be “a great idea” work with her again. However, he made it clear that, for him, Robert Englund is still the only Freddy. “If I were involved in a new ‘Elm Street,’ my first goal would be to get Robert involved.”he explained.

Despite this, Englund has noted on several occasions that his days as Freddy are behind him. This is where Russell launched a surprising proposal: the possibility of Jim Carrey taking on the role. Knowledgeable about his work after directing it in The maskthe director assured that the Canadian actor “He could do almost anything if he put his mind to it.”.

In Russell’s words, the only way Carrey would accept such a project would be if it represented “a new leap within the saga”in the style of the meta-cinematic approach that Wes Craven introduced with “The New Nightmare.” According to the filmmaker, both he and Carrey would only consider taking on such an iconic challenge if it involved a “bold and different” direction.
