Is the Raptor dead or not?

Black Phone 2 is finally in cinemas, but do you remember how the first chapter ended? Let’s recap where we left off and how the horror ending set up the sequel with Ethan Hawke!

Il Black Phone finale (2022) represented a definitive conclusion for the sadistic killer played by Ethan Hawke. However, the great success achieved by the horror film directed by Scott Derrickson paved the way for a sequel, Black Phone 2which is in our theaters from October 16th.

In the potentially definitive ending of the first film, He Raptor (Hawke) is killed by Finney (Mason Thames), who succeeds in the undertaking thanks to the advice received from the ghosts of the other children. Finney uses the previously dug pit to trap the killer, who also breaks his ankle on a grate. The boy also fills the ground phone’s receiver and uses it to hit the Raptor. Finally, grab the phone cord and strangles him to death. Just before he dies, Finney takes off his mask. The police get a tip about where to look for the body and find more evidence about the serial killer, thus putting an end to his vicious crime spree. These final moments, however, beautifully set the stage for a sequel.

Black Phone 2: it’s not over for Finney and Gwen

The entire premise of the first film establishes that Finney and his sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) can communicate with the dead and that the dead can communicate with the living via the ‘Black Telephone’ of the title. So, despite the fate of the Raptor was marked by the boy, this does not mean that his death is definitive. The villain could easily communicate with Gwen through his psychic visions.

Furthermore, at the end of the first film, Finney has changed. He is more self-confident and aware of the ability to communicate with the deceased: we see him take a different approach to life and the plot it also shows that brother and sister have unique hereditary traits… but how does all this relate to the sequel? And, more importantly, how The Raptor will return in Black Phone 2?

Ethan Hawke reprises his role as the Raptor in Black Phone 2

It is confirmed that Ethan Hawke will reprise his role as the assassin, as well as Mason Thames e Madeliene McGraw will reprise their roles respectively Finn e Gwen. In Black Phone 2the protagonist, now seventeen, struggles to cope with life after the kidnapping, but the Raptor he is seeking revenge from beyond the grave. Gwen, now 15, begins to dream of receiving calls from the black phone and having disturbing visions about three unknown boys. Determined to solve the mystery, she will discover a shocking link between the Raptor and her family’s history. The brothers, therefore, will find themselves faced with a killer who, after death, has become even more powerful.

In February, Scott Derrickson he said he made Hawke’s character even more disturbing and disturbing, but that also the Finn’s growth will play an important role. The age difference of the protagonist, in fact, adds another crucial factor to the story: love. “Romance has a place in the film I just finished shooting, Black Phone 2 – admitted the director to the microphones of GamesRadar+ – I think it interests me because I think the two most powerful feelings we have in our lives are love and fear. I think we shot something really unique.”

The sequel will be more mature and ‘graphic’ than the first Black Phone. “The main difference is that it’s a coming-of-age movie for high school kids,” Derrickson continued, “just like the original movie was a coming-of-age movie for middle school kids, but they’re two very different things. You know, a coming-of-age movie for high school kids demands more. It has to be more visceral. It has to be, I think, more graphic, scarier“.
