General Motors (GM) is preparing for a new international expansion and the brand chosen to begin this strategy is GMC, which is the group’s premium division and is above Chevrolet, but below Cadillac. The vehicle manufacturer is planning to launch its products in three new markets in the coming years. Are you coming to Brazil now?
According to GM, GMC sales in China are expected to begin in 2024, followed by Australia and New Zealand in 2025. This move is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen the brand’s operations in the United States, Mexico, Canada and the Middle East. Furthermore, GM highlights that this initiative is driven by the successful launch of GMC in South Korea last year.
Duncan Aldred, Global Vice President of GMC, expressed excitement about this new phase of the brand. According to him, GMC is experiencing the most relevant period in its history, as it hopes to grow competitively in the domestic market while venturing into new markets. Aldred also emphasized that GMC is shaping its future as a premium truck and SUV brand.

GMC em alta
Last year, GMC achieved great success in the United States, delivering 563,677 vehicles, which represents an increase of 8.9% over the previous year. The Sierra 1500, the most sophisticated version of the Chevrolet Silverado, was the absolute highlight, with 189,288 units sold, followed by the Sierra HD and the Acadia SUV.
Speaking specifically of Sierra trucks, the brand had its best year of combined sales and recorded the sixth consecutive year of market share growth. GMC also revealed that it is increasing production of Hummer electric vehicles, which are now part of the manufacturer’s portfolio, whose sales doubled from 2022 to 2023.

Among GMC consumers, the Denali version stands out as the most sought after, with 34% of customers opting for this configuration. On the other hand, the AT4 version, launched just five years ago, has already gained a significant fan base, with 19% of consumers choosing variants with greater off-road appeal last year.
For now, GM has no plans to bring GMC vehicles to Brazil, although it has sold the brand here in the past. In the 2000s, the first Chevrolet Silverado gained GMC versions, in an attempt to pay less tax as a pickup truck, in addition to gaining a truck variation, with a cabin and chassis.
