AGI – It kicks off tonight at 7pm at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone the twentieth edition of the Rome Film Festival which will be held until Sunday 26 October produced by Cinema Foundation for Rome chaired by Salvatore Nastasi with the artistic direction of Paola Malanga. The DJ, presenter, actress, writer and singer Ema Stokholma will be on stage at the Sala Sinopoli to conduct the ceremony inauguralalso visible at the same time from the Sala Petrassi. During the evening the opening film, ‘Life goes like this’ by Riccardo Milani with Diego Abatantuono, Virginia Raffaeli and Aldo Baglioout of competition in the Grand Public section.
The director, author of great successes including ‘Piano, solo’, ‘The war of the Antò’, ‘Il posto dell’anima’, ‘Like a cat on the ring road’, ‘Like a cat on the ring road – Return to Coccia di Morto’‘I’m running to you’, ‘Thank you guys’, ‘A world apart’ and exciting documentaries such as ‘In our sky a rumble of thunder’ and ‘Me, us and Gaber’, he creates an ironic and passionate story spanning twenty years, set in a wonderful corner of Sardiniawhere a community will find itself caught between the dream of Work and the defense of territory and his identity.
The film is inspired by true story of the Sardinian shepherd Ovidio Marras which for years has resisted a project of building speculation intended to transform his land into a luxury resorta story that went around the world and also ended up on the pages of international newspapers.
Industry Lifetime Achievement Award a Lord David Puttnam
Before the screening, Lord David Puttnam – one of the most eminent figures on the contemporary cultural scene, producer of films such as ‘Chariots of Fire’, ‘Screams of the Silence’, ‘Mission’, ‘Midnight Express’, ‘Local Hero’ and ‘Little Gangsters’ – will receive theIndustry Lifetime Achievement Award. Recognition, one of the innovations that the Festa del Cinema introduces starting from the 2025 editionintends to pay homage to the personalities ofglobal film industry who, with their memorable career, have left an indelible mark on the history of seventh art. The producer, director and screenwriter will present the award Uberto Pasolinia long-time collaborator of Puttnam between the 1980s and 1990s.
Puttnam retrospective, three masterpieces at the Festival
To celebrate the career of Lord David Puttnamthe Festival will host, within the section History of Cinemaa retrospective of three famous titles he produced. It will start at 11.30 am at Studio Gianni Borgna Theatre of the Auditorium Parco della Musica with ‘Local Hero’ by Bill Forsyth; at 4 pm in Sala Petrassi there will be ‘The Mission’ by Roland Joffé; finally, at 4.30 pm, in the Sala Cinecittà of the Casa del Cinema, the public will be able to watch ‘Chariots of Fire’ by Hugh Hudson.
Special screening: “Pontifex” by Daniele Ciprì
At 3pm at Studio Gianni Borgna Theatre for the Special Screenings section, ‘Pontifex – A bridge between mercy and hope‘ Of Daniele Cipri. Made on the occasion of Jubilee ongoing, the documentary has as its pillar an intense interview with Monsignor Fisichellawhich addresses many major contemporary issues (from freedom to artificial intelligences) reiterating the disruptive force of Hope.
Photographic exhibitions: Franco Pinna and ‘Don’t be bad’ by Caligari
In the morning they will be inaugurated exhibitions hosted at the Auditorium Parco della Musica. In the Foyer of the Sinopoli Hall it will be heldFranco Pinna. Mondocinema‘, one of the three exhibitions dedicated – one hundred years after his birth – to the photographer Franco Pinnaconceived by Archivio Franco Pinna and produced by OfficinaVisioni, edited by Paolo Pisanelli, in collaboration with Cinema del Reale, Erratacorrige and Big Sur. The exhibition, with the support of the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture, presents a selection of over seventy photographs representing the formidable cinematographic repertoire developed by the artist in the glorious twenty years between the fifties and seventies of the last century.
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the release of ‘Don’t be bad’, the Film Festival pays homage to the visionary talent of Claudio Caligari through the photographic exhibitionDon’t be mean: Ten years later‘, set up in the Foyer of the Sala Petrassi. Curated by Stefania Plaza Mora, with the support of the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture, the exhibition focuses on Caligari’s latest cinematographic work and the lasting impact of his artistic language. Through the photographs of Matteo Graia, taken during the behind the scenes of the film, the visitor is invited to explore set moments and scene details and the intimacy of the protagonists.
Installation “Alien Perspective” tribute to Carlo Rambaldi
The installation ‘Alien Perspective‘ which pays homage to Carlo Rambaldithree times Oscar Award and genius of special effects (ET, Alien, King Kong, Dune). On the centenary of his birth, ‘Alien Perspective’ celebrates Rambaldi’s legacy by transforming part of his pictorial collection ‘Spatial Atmospheres’ in an immersive experience. For the first time a painting becomes a digital portal: seventeen minute journey through cosmic landscapes, metaphysical cities and futuristic architecture.
Designed and created by Jung Ah Suh and Cristina Rambaldi, in collaboration with the Carlo Rambaldi Foundation and CSC Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, with the support of the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture, the project invites the public not to limit themselves to observing, but to explore and interact, transforming art into a living and navigable universe. The installation VRwhich can be enjoyed individually, will be open to the public until 25 October in the Cinema Village.
