The next chapter in the Evil Dead saga, Evil Dead Burn, has wrapped filming, and the official Evil Dead Twitter account has celebrated the occasion with a delightfully nasty behind-the-scenes video.
Directed by Sébastien Vanicek, Evil Dead Burn seems to continue the anthology-style progression of the last two films, 2013’s franchise revival, Evil Dead, and 2023’s Evil Dead Rise. These movies don’t feature Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams (at least, not in any meaningful capacity save for a gratuitous cameo in the former and an intriguing Easter Egg in the latter) but deals with various incarnations of the Book of the Dead wreaking havoc among innocent civilians who have to either figure out how to fight back or die horribly.
In celebration of finishing principal photography, Evil Dead’s Twitter account released a video of what, presumably, is the last scene they shot, and it’s a doozy! It’s a shot of someone absolutely brutalizing an offscreen target with what looks like a broken window frame. Even after the video cuts off, the sound continues. It’s visceral and a little disturbing, so par for the course for Evil Dead!
Story details for Evil Dead Burn are unknown, though it may continue from the cliffhanger ending (or opening) of Evil Dead Rise. Then again, it might also be a completely new story. At some point, they’re going to have to bring the disparate stories together in some way with the triumphant return of Ash Williams (why, oh why did they cancel Ash Vs The Evil Dead, the fools!) to save the day, but I don’t think that’s going to happen in this particular movie.
In the meantime, if Evil Dead Burn is half as good as Evil Dead Rise, I’ll be a happy Zaky, since I absolutely adored Rise, and found it to be a significant improvement from the overly slick 2013 Evil Dead remake. Whatever the case shakes out to be, Evil Dead Burn is scheduled for theatrical release on July 24, 2026.
