Discover the Apollo Gallery, target of robbery at the Louvre Museum

O Louvre Museumin Paris, was the target of an audacious criminal action this Sunday (19) that resulted in the theft of jewelry considered “priceless“.

The thieves acted in just seven minutesraping Galeria de Apolo and its showcases that housed important pieces of French royalty.

The Apollo Gallery is known for housing the royal collection of hard stone vases do King Louis 14carved from precious minerals such as jade, amethyst and lapis lazuli, as well as French Crown Jewels.

Among the greatest treasures on display in the Apollo Gallery were the spinel “Coast of Brittany”which belonged to Anne of Brittany and is considered the oldest gem in the collection, surviving centuries of theft and dispersal; the legendary diamonds Regent, Sancy e Hortensiawho once shone in crowns and royal attire; and the 19th century emerald and diamond sets that belonged to the empress Maria Luisa.

The Gallery is part of the Louvre Museum since the end of the 18th century. It was originally designed in the 1660s and completed under the direction of the architect Delix Duban Feix in the 19th century. The room is still considered National and World Heritage. Since 1887, it has housed the prestigious French Crown Jewels collection, which brings together some of the most famous gems in the world.

The space underwent a restoration process in 2019, recovering golden frames and stained glass windows.

Among the stolen items, Empress Eugênia’s diamond and pearl tiara stands out, acquired by the Louvre a few years ago after the collection was dispersed. A turn for taxis. This is not the first incident of this nature in Louvre. The museum has faced other episodes of theft throughout its history, including the famous theft of the Mona Lisa in 1911, which was later recovered
