With the change in American vehicle policy, with a preference for the return of large V8 engines, General Motors will respond to the White House’s call with a gigantic V8, considering the current reality of the American market.
Like the old Big Blocks, the V8 nicknamed MegaMax is quite large, but fueled with diesel oil. It has reportedly been seen aboard pickup trucks and light trucks being tested, such as the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD.
This suggests that the heavier versions of these pickup trucks come with the huge diesel engine, officially called Duramax 8.3, with its more than 8 liters in volume and practically equaling the old gasoline engines that powered pickup trucks.
Currently, GM it uses the 6.6-liter Duramax, another V8, known by the code L5P, but if this actually happens, the Chevrolet and GMC brands will have a V8 diesel engine much larger than the current one.
Likewise, it would force weight onto the 6.7 Cummins inline-six used extensively by Ram and even over Ford’s Godzilla, the 7.3-liter gasoline V8.
Today, the 6.6-liter Duramax has 476 horsepower and 134.3 kgfm, and can pull up to 16,300 kg of trailer, which suggests that a MegaMax could easily exceed 17 tons.
GM, in relation to the 6.6, could also modernize it with new turbochargers and engine support hardware, as well as updated engine calibrations, as suggested by the Americans at GM Authority.
With improvements to the 10-speed automatic transmission, the Duramax 6.6 could yield more, but imagining an 8.3-liter V8 with much more horsepower and overwhelming torque is enough to drive any enthusiast crazy…
In a Silverado HD with a long chassis, a wide cabin and a huge bucket, with a double wheel at the back, this V8 8.3 MegaMax could be what’s missing for many to make the purchase, especially if the power it offers is much greater than the current 6.6.
