Chevrolet has been facing difficulties in registering its electric cars in Brazil. The market is increasingly taken over by Chinese brands that offer well-equipped SUVs, with aggressive prices and good autonomy, leaving traditional automakers at a disadvantage. The one that loses a lot due to the very high value is the Chevrolet Equinox EV, which received a price reduction of R$90,200 to try to gain momentum in sales.
Sales below expectations
The Equinox EV was launched in October 2024 imported from Mexico, but failed to repeat the success of other electric SUVs. Last year, it sold just 46 units, with November being its best month, with 29 copies sold.
Since January 2025, the situation has worsened — the SUV receives no more than 10 registrations per month, with an average of just 7 units per month. The main factor is the price. At launch, it already cost R$419,000, and is currently priced at R$440,190, a very high price when compared to the competition. Therefore, in an attempt to boost sales, Chevrolet lowered the price of the Equinox EV by R$90,200, reducing it to R$349,990.

With this, the model approaches premium rivals, such as the electric Mini Countryman (R$ 340,990), and also faces strong Chinese players in the category, such as the Zeekr X Flagship (R$ 339,000) and the BMW iX1 (R$ 362,950). Even so, it remains positioned in a very competitive range, where price and added value weigh heavily on consumer decisions.
What is the Chevrolet Equinox EV like?
Despite the market difficulties, the Equinox EV is a very competent SUV. It uses the Ultium platform, the basis of GM’s electric models, also present in Cadillac vehicles and the Chevrolet Blazer EV (R$503,190).
The battery has 85 kWh capacity and powers two electric motors that deliver 292 hp and 46 kgfm of torque. This set allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.
The approved autonomy is 443 km according to Inmetro. The model accepts recharges in alternating current (AC) of up to 22 kW or in direct current (DC) of up to 150 kW.
Measuring 4.84 meters long, 1.95 m wide, 1.64 m high and with a wheelbase of 2.95 m, the Equinox EV is the size of a large SUV. The trunk holds 441 liters.
GM strategy
To try to deliver a diversity of electric cars in Brazil, GM invested in a joint venture with SAIC and Wuling, bringing new products with the brand’s ties and adjustments to compete. One of them is the Chevrolet Spark EUV, which costs R$166,990 and targets the BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora 03. Another model that will hit the market soon is the Captiva, now as an electric SUV.
