Check out the main cinema releases in the 2nd half of 2025

Expectations for the next few months in cinema are high with so many productions hitting the big screen.

Among them is the new film by Kleber Mendonça Filhostarring Wagner Moura“The Secret Agent”. The production attracted attention after receiving awards for “Best Actor” and “Best Director” at the Cannes Film Festival.

The semester is also marked by the return of already known stories, such as the universe of “I Know What You Did Last Summer“, which enters a new story more than 20 years after the first massacre. Another sequel awaits is the sequel “An Even Crazier Friday” with the returns of Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis as Anna and Tess Coleman.

In the new film about the Kryptonian hero, Superman is looking to reconcile his alien roots and the experience of a human raised on Earth.

• I Know What You Did Last Summer – 7/17

A few decades after the events of the sequels to “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, a group of young people makes a mistake similar to teenagers in the 1990s: they hide that they were responsible for a fatal accident. While being chased by a killer with a hook, the group searches for survivors of the 1997 massacre.

• Fantastic Four: First Steps – 7/24

The group of heroes must face the threat of Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer, whose mission is to destroy Earth.

• Materialistic Loves – 07/31

Lucy, played by Dakota Johson, works as a matchmaker in New York when she finds herself in a love triangle with her ex-boyfriend, John (Cris Evans), and a rich new suitor, Harry (Pedro Pascal).

August

A city in the countryside finds itself faced with a macabre event: all the children in a school class disappear on the same day and time, except one.

• An Even Crazier Friday – 07/08

Years after the events of “Freaky Friday”, Anna (Lindsay Lohan) and Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) face the challenges of a family merger, with Anna’s marriage and her preparation to become a stepmother.

In a dystopian Brazil, Tereza, a 77-year-old woman, embarks on a journey through the rivers of the Amazon to fulfill a dream, before being taken to a housing colony. The film has Rodrigo Santoro in the cast.

• The Conjuring 4: The Last Ritual – 04/09

The production is based on the real story of the Smurl family, who said they were haunted by an entity between 1973 and 1989. Then, investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren go on their last mission.

• One Battle After Another – 9/25

With Leonardo DiCaprio in the cast, the plot follows a group of former revolutionaries who are forced to come together to rescue the daughter of one of the members, kidnapped by an old enemy.

• Maurício de Souza: The Film – 10/23

The production starring Mauro Souza recounts the life story of Maurício de Souza, his father and the most famous comic book artist in Brazil, creator of “Turma da Mônica”.

“Roofman” tells about the escape from prison of Jeffrey Manchester, a criminal known as the ‘roof thief’. Based on the true story of the robber of the same name.

November

Set in Recife in the 1970s, Marcelo (Wagner Moura) flees to the capital of Pernambuco in an attempt to leave his past behind, a plan that is out of his control as soon as he arrives in the city.

• “Wicked: For Good” – 20/11

Part 2 of the musical production that debuted in 2024 brings the outcome of the story of Glinda, who became the “Good Witch of the North”, and Elphaba, “The Wicked Witch of the West”, who come together to save Oz from the lies of the Wizard of Oz.

• Avatar: Fire and Ash – 12/18

In the third film in James Cameron’s franchise, the story follows Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and their family on Pandora, who need to face the Na’vi tribe, known for its violence and thirst for power, led by Varang (Oona Chaplin).
