The film Caramelreleased on Netflix last Wednesday, the 8th, has brought many viewers to tears for telling the story of the friendship of a clumsy stray dog and a chef who adopts him after being followed by him home. Despite its cuteness, the feature film also awakens fear in those who want to watch the film but prefer to avoid suffering: after all, does the dog die?
Starring Rafael Vitti and by the dog Peanutthe feature film directed by Diego Freitas tells the story of Pedro, a chef who wins the promotion of his dreams on the same day that an abandoned dog invades his life and home. At the same time that he achieves what he always dreamed of professionally, Pedro receives a cancer diagnosis and will need to rethink his life priorities.

Emotion, naturally, is part of the story, inspired by the meeting between Freitas and his own dog, Paçoca. For Vitti, a dog lover, the film was a challenge from the beginning, precisely because of the idea of acting alongside an animal.
“I think this film was the biggest challenge I’ve had to date, not just because I was acting 90% of the time with a dog,” said the star in an interview with Estadão. “This for me is very interesting because he is always bringing me new stimuli, there is no way to repeat it. I love working from this perspective of what can arise, and this ends up being inevitable when we have a dog on the scene.”

Although the public’s greatest fear is seeing a puppy dying on stage, Caramel doesn’t die in the Netflix film. The story deals with his great friendship with Pedro and the difference that the animal makes in the chef’s life, whether teaching him to see reality more lightly or being a great friend both in good times and in the most difficult ones.
“I have no doubt that (the film) will encourage a lot of people to rethink when they want to buy a dog”, says Vitti, projecting: “I think I’ll go to the shelter, maybe there I’ll find a great partner who will brighten my home and who will give me love, and who will receive a lot of love too.”
Caramel is now available for streaming on Netflix.
