Madrid
This Friday, October 17, it premieres The debtthe third film by Daniel Guzmán, with which the last Malaga Festival opened. A social drama with thriller touches that talks about caring for the elderly, loss, guilt, crisis and gentrification.
Carlos Boyero has confessed in The Cinema Window which seemed “beautiful and very sad” at the same time. It is the second time that the director works with the figure of an elderly woman as the protagonist. “He has experienced it at home. It is something that is close to his heart,” commented Francino.
“The film reveals truth, it demonstrates the compassion that the director has towards the character he plays. He is a loser with dignity, he tries to assume his concern: that the old woman could die in her house,” commented Boyero.
The director of the film is also in charge of starring in the work alongside Spanish actresses and actors such as Itziar Ituño, Susana Abaitua, Luis Tosar and Francesc Garrido. “They all do it great,” said the film critic.
Francino and Boyero have remembered one of the protagonists, the elderly Rosario García, who died in May, at the age of 92, just a few weeks after presenting the film in Malaga.
“I get less into the gangster intrigue, but Daniel Guzmán’s relationship with films about helpless elderly people and people is incredible. You can tell that the director masters the language of the street. The film has a compassionate tone and is authentic, both with the situations and its characters,” Boyero said.
The Hollywood Premiere Witch Hunt
This Friday, “Witch Hunt” also hits theaters, a film set in the university world, starring Julia Roberts, about sexual abuse, directed by Luca Gadagnino.
“It seemed like remarkable nonsense, full of pretensions, which makes me even more angry,” Boyero commented.
The film critic assures that its director tells you, in a “twisted way”, but “not at all interesting”, the story of a woman who receives a complaint from a student who has had a non-consensual sexual relationship with one of her teachers.
The indelible memory of Diane Keaton
Actress Diane Keaton passed away last weekend at the age of 79. She worked with Woody Allen in several films and with “Annie Hall” she won the Oscar for best actress.
“Diane Keaton was the style, the very particular elegance, an intelligent woman, a different beauty, she inaugurated a new type of woman in Hollywood,” Boyero recalled, insisting on the need to recommend films by the actress such as Manhattan, The Godfather, Annie Hall o Reds. His memory, he said, will remain in our heads “forever.”
