Taylor Swift’s new album film tops US box office and grosses US$33 million

Bloomberg — A listening party Taylor Swiftwith personal reflections from the artist and music videos with lyrics from her new album The Life of a Showgirlwas the highest-grossing film in US and Canadian theaters this weekend.

The sing-along film, titled The Official Release Party of a Showgirl and distributed by AMC Entertainment, grossed $33 million in ticket sales. That compares to a median estimate of $35 million from Boxoffice Pro, an industry tracker.

The film has generated an additional $13 million internationally, according to AMC, which noted that the event was announced just two weeks ago and did not have the Thursday night previews or Friday morning screenings that other films typically have.

It is Swift’s second film released by AMC, whose executive director, Adam Aron, is friends with Swift’s parents.

In 2023, AMC’s concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour It generated $261.7 million at the worldwide box office, making it the most successful concert film of all time.

That film launched with $93.2 million in the US and Canada.

Swift’s new film buoyed an otherwise slow weekend for theaters.

The film The Official Release Party of a Showgirl premiered against adult-oriented films – The Smashing Machinefrom independent distributor A24, and the second weekend of One Battle After Another, from the Warner film studio.
