One Battle After Another surpasses US$100 million; read

One Battle After Anothermovies of Paul Thomas Anderson starring Leonardo DiCaprio e Chase Infinitisurpassed the US$100 million mark at the global box office in its second week in theaters, becoming the director’s most profitable project and the first to reach this milestone, since, until then, Black Blood (2007) was his highest-grossing film, with US$76.4 million.

To obtain 100% profit, however, the feature film would need to gross around US$300 million, as it reportedly had a budget of US$130 million. One Shot After Another is doing better internationally, racking up $58.9 million outside the United States, more than half of its total haul of $101.7 million to date.

All about One Battle After Another

The film that has been described as the “most commercial project” of Paul Thomas Anderson’s career (Magnolia) features Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street), Regina Hall (Shaft), Teyana Taylor (Thousand and One), Sean Penn (MilkKKK) and the singer Alana Haimmembro do trio musical HAIM and star Licorice Pizza.

The young woman Chase Infiniti, seen in the series Above Suspicion, do Apple TV+is also in the troupe. The script is by Anderson himself, who was inspired by Vinelandepic book by the mysterious author Thomas Pynchon.

Notoriously difficult to adapt, Pynchon has already had one of his books turned into a film by PTA. In 2014, the director released an adaptation of Inherent Vice starring Joaquin Phoenix.

Concrete details of the story have not yet been released by Warner Bros., which gave Anderson his biggest budget so far (supposedly, US$140 million) and guaranteed an IMAX release.

In the history of Vineland, Hippie Zoyd Wheeler, who lives alone with his daughter Prairie, finds himself in the middle of a dangerous mission when he is recruited by a prosecutor to investigate criminals and, perhaps, discover the whereabouts of the girl’s mother. The film is classified as an action comedy.

One of the most acclaimed directors working today, Paul Thomas Anderson is the filmmaker responsible for modern classics such as Magnolia, Phantom Thread, The Master e Black Bloodthe latter two with actor Daniel Day-Lewis. Licorice Pizza was his most recent production.

One Battle After Another is now showing in cinemas.
