Chevrolet Equinox EV drops to R$349,990 after weak sales in Brazil

With sales down, the Chevrolet Equinox EV saw a sharp price drop in Brazil. Launched in October 2024 with a starting price of R$419,000, the electric SUV cost R$440,190 at the beginning of this year, but is now offered for R$349,990. The drop of R$90,200 occurs at a time of lower-than-expected sales: according to ABVE, only 28 units have been registered in 2025 so far.

The reduction is part of General Motors’ strategy to make the Equinox EV more competitive in an increasingly competitive market, especially compared to electric SUVs from Chinese brands, such as the Zeekr

The initial price of the Equinox EV already placed it at a high level compared to direct competitors. With subsequent readjustments, the value exceeded R$440 thousand, approaching larger models, such as the Blazer EV itself, also sold in Brazil. This positioning compromised its attractiveness, especially in the face of rivals of Chinese origin that offer autonomy and technology at more affordable prices.

With the new value of R$349,990, the Equinox EV improves its positioning, although it still cannot be called “affordable” for the proposal, and could compete for space with medium-sized electric SUVs from traditional and new brands.

Well designed, the Equinox measures 4.84 meters and is built on the Ultium platform, the basis for the entire new generation of GM electric cars. The model sold in Brazil has two electric motors, one on each axle, delivering 292 hp of power and 46 kgfm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.8 seconds, performance equivalent to that of the Blazer EV RS.

The 85 kWh battery provides 443 km of autonomy according to the Inmetro cycle. Recharging with alternating current (AC) of up to 22 kW takes approximately 4h45 to complete 100%, while with direct current (DC) of up to 150 kW the recharge time from 15% to 80% is approximately 48 minutes.

Among the equipment, the SUV offers adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, lane keeping assistant, autonomous emergency braking and 360° cameras. The interior features an 11-inch digital dashboard and a 17.7-inch multimedia center, equipped with Google Built-In, allowing you to use Maps directly on the instrument panel.

The price reduction represents an attempt by GM to reverse the weak performance of the Equinox EV in Brazil. Although it offers decent performance, great autonomy and a broad technological package, the model has not yet managed to win over the audience in the medium electric SUV segment. We will monitor the effect of this price reduction.
